Manager: Legal Services

The above vacancy exists within the Legal Services Department and reports to the General Manager: Business Affairs and Legal. The purpose of the position is to provide effective, cost effective and efficient legal services to the company. The ideal candidate will be someone who has successfully completed successfully completed an LLB degree and is an admitted attorney, with a minimum of 3 years managerial experience and post articles, litigation and commercial experience.
Key performance areas: 

  • Management of attorneys and legal staff;
  • Management of departmental operational activities; 
  • Legal advice and research;
  • Legal cost and Department budgeting Control;
  • Contract negotiation, drafting, vetting and management;
  • Copyright infringement action;
  • General litigation;
  • Debt recovery/Collections;
  • Reporting, Process drafting and System development; 
  • Strategic planning and monitoring; 
  • Risk Management, Legal Auditing and Compliance; and
  • Training. 

  Minimum Requirements:

  • Relevant legal qualification- LLB degree;
  • An admitted attorney; 
  • 3 years is post articles, ligation and commercial experience; 
  • 3 years managerial experience; 
  • Ability to manage stakeholders (attorneys, legal consultants, service providers etc.);
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure;
  • Ability to oversee and manage legal projects; 
  • Excellent computer skills (including word processing and spreadsheet packages); 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Understanding of copyright law is essential.
