Program Manager: “Concerts South Africa”

Concerts SA is a South African-Norwegian Live Music Development Program administered by SAMRO Foundation in collaboration with the Norwegian Embassy and its implementation partner, Concerts Norway. The main goal of the program is to promote live music in South Africa by establishing concert circuits in both urban and rural areas in South Africa and to promote cooperation and cultural exchange between South Africa and Norway. The above one-year contract exists within the SAMRO Foundation. The position is to lead the implementation of managing and administrating the regional “Concerts South Africa” project, the Program Manager will have both administrative and social/artistic responsibilities. The position is based at the SAMRO Foundation in Braamfontein. 

The ideal candidate is one who has successfully completed a degree or equivalent experience in the arts, arts administration and or music with at least 5 years event and project management experience.  The candidate will be a strong arts administrator with an in depth knowledge and understanding of live music development as well as artist- and events management; coupled with experience and  understanding of  international cultural exchange.   

Extensive experiences in the following areas will be necessary:

  • Management of events and projects
  • Financial Management
  • Human Resources and Team Management
  • Arts & Culture Management
  • Fundraising & Nonprofit Management
  • Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) with international embassies

The following skills will be required:

  • Meticulous administrative abilities
  • Integrity
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent literary skills including comprehensive reading, and writing and editing texts for various publications, proposals and reports
  • External partnership development
  • Public communications (Media, Social Media etc…)

The following would also be advantageous:

  • General knowledge of the  music and arts sector around the world
  • Team ethic
  • Situational empathy

Excellent practical experience with MS Word and Excel is vital, while some data processing knowledge would be helpful. A valid driver’s license with own vehicle is essential.
